Island life is different than living in the country, city, suburbia, or basically anywhere. Then you zero in on Hatteras Island, specifically Hatteras Village, and you find a truly unique and challenging place to live. Hatteras Village is 30 miles off the mainland jutting out into the ocean where the Gulf Stream and Labrador Current meet. This climate earned us the title "Graveyard of the Atlantic" and the number 1 spot for most landfall hurricanes in the Atlantic Basin. From June through November, you must be ready for a hurricane at any time. From October to April, you must be ready for a Nor'Easter at any time. Basically, year-round you need to be prepared for a major weather event if living on Hatteras Island.
